Why process Transformer oil?

Transformers are able to keep operating because of the paper that provides the mechanical strength to hold them together. This and dielectric spacing too, enabling the transformer to withstand mechanical vibration, switching surges, line surges and limited short circuits. However, as the transformer ages the paper insulation loses this ability. To try to minimize this, the transformer also contains mineral oil - to provide the paper insulation with protection, in the form of dielectric strength and cooling. Because this oil is an organic compound it too degrades and oxides, reducing its effectiveness and protective abilities. And that’s where we come in.”

At Utility Oils Ltd we don’t simply sit back and rest on our reputation as the sector leader, we continue to innovate to provide a better and more cost effective service for our clients. One of the latest innovations we have recently introduced is our Mobile Transformer To avoid the build up of sludge – the result of this oil degradation - which can damage the transformer and reduce its life Utility Oils Ltd have developed their Mobile Transformer Oil Reprocessing Plant.

This new and innovative facility means we can now offer our customers a convenient and cost effective maintenance service, cleaning oils either on or off site and returning them, purified, to the transformer, resulting in improved performance and extended transformer life. And that means our customers can save money, continue to be competitive and operate secure in the knowledge that they can rely on their equipment to keep running efficiently. We’re excited about this new facility, and we think you should be too.
